Isaac Laquedem, the first in a new Classical Dumas Series, was, in the author's words, "the capital work of my life." Taking him two decades to write, and, unlike works such as The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers, without any collaboration, he thought that it would one day rival works such as Homer's Iliad and Virgil's Iliad.
