Jesse has been betrayed by Eli , who turns him over to the jealous dictator Heinrich Mollen. In a fit of rage Mollen publicly executes Jesse as his followers and family watch.
Peter rescues Maria and Marika from behind enemy lines and they make the perilous journey in a crowded refugee boat to the Promise land. Instead of the peace they hope to find, they enter a country in the throes of fighting for independence.
