When Sergeant Roger Downey, a Road Traffic Police Officer, sets off in high-speed pursuit of what appears to be a stolen vehicle, he has no idea how that single, routine event is going to turn his world upside down and thrust him into a whirlpool of psychological trauma.

A witnessed suicide leads him on a quest to discover the reason for the darkness which suddenly penetrates his world. His enquiries lead him to Paul Munnelly a 'down on his luck' young man whose pitiful tale of greed, lust and exploitation holds most of the clues. At the heart of Munnelly's dilemma is the mysterious Mr Ammon and the Apple Seed Partnership with its baits and hooks. Through Munnelly's eyes the outer layers of secrecy are unravelled to reveal an agenda hiding in plain sight backed by societal respectability and protected by a legal framework.
As his investigation climaxes, Downey is forced to confront demons lurking in the smokescreen of his illusory past, a past that conceals a dark secret, a dark secret that has the capacity to either heal or destroy him!
