Dan dreams of qualifying as an engineer. But his family is broken, with a violent father who opposes education. Good marks at school, university entrance funds, and impressing the beautiful girl on the train all seem equally out of reach for Dan. Other kids have good fathers who love them. Why can't he?

There are ways to make money so he can get what he needs. He's determined, quick and smart - but is this enough to keep him out of trouble?
