"Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart."

Desperate to escape the attempts on his life by his one-time ally, King Saul, David clung to this mantra, given to him as a child when the prophet Samuel anointed him the next king of Israel.

Did he have the heart of a king? Doubt ravaged him as he took refuge in the Judean wilderness, supported by his band of 400 outlaws, keeping clear of King Saul, never knowing when-or if-he would achieve his life's goal. Enduring betrayal and the loss of those closest to him, he forged on, ultimately eluding the King by hiding out in the land of his enemy, the Philistines.

Will David be trapped in allegiance to his enemy now that he is living under their protection? Or will he reach his aim and become Israel's next King?
