Learning to Fly is the heart-warming story of a boy coming-of age. It is the story of mistakes made and lessons learned. On becoming a teenager, Sam feels that he is now old enough and wise enough to exert his authority over his sister, Cassie. When he attempts to teach Cassie a lesson, the result is a disaster.

In the process of learning to fly Sam learns that his actions have consequences, some good and some not so good. They could even lead to someone's death. Cassie learns that sometimes you need help to fly. In the end, an owl teaches them both that when you fly high you must be careful.
