Aly M. Bellisher, a ten-year-old teller of tall tales, discovers her best friend is no longer attending public school. Aly fears she will now be the only Christian kid in her class. When she begins to act out, her mother hangs a special bible verse on the refrigerator door for her to memorize, or she won't be allowed to sing at the church cantata. Matthew 5:14, "Be a light for God . . ." With many obstacles in the way, Aly fails in her attempt to memorize the verse. Only when faced with a situation at school of befriending the new girl does Aly truly learn its meaning.
