Taking a look at ourselves under a microscope and identifying our own shortcomings is not a pleasant exercise, however, it is one that is important in the life of every Christian to ensure that we are following in the footsteps of Jesus. It is important because we pause and really think of who we are, the choices we make and what we do in relation to what God requires of us. It is not an easy time. We like to see ourselves through rose-tinted glasses but during this exercise; we are urged to take them off, peel back our layers and take an almost critical look at ourselves before God with a view to developing a deeper, better, closer and more obedient relationship with God at the end of the exercise; receive fresh anointing and a fresh out pouring of the Holy Spirit on us.In order to reap maximum benefit we must be willing to engage with the scriptures and the Holy Spirit on an individual level.
