Todd isn't bothered by all of this. He is interested in learning more about aviation and how to fly. He asks for a radio-controlled plane, reads about flying, and uses the flying critters to help him understand the forces at work or the aerodynamics of flight.

Meanwhile, Granddad Martin from New York comes for a visit and takes over managing the Dunn Ranch, the children, and the critters. Martin unexpectedly joins four others to fly back to Wyoming to check on Tom's ranch and button it up for winter. Martin finally gets a chance that the others already had, to pan for gold! At a Cody, WY parade that evening, Martin meets some cowboys. This chance meeting sets Martin on a path that changes his life and the Dunn family's and started a great friendship!
