My name's Bernie-not a name I would have chosen for an eighty-five-pound guard dog, but it was the one given to me by my family. I was named after Great-grandpa Bernie Cantrell. He built Southcliff ranch-over seven hundred dog years ago.

I have a tale about a wild stallion named Maccabee, a "ghost" panther, and a boy named Miles who lives at Southcliff with his family. It's funny how a whirling lariat brought change to Southcliff Ranch. And how, because of Maccabee, friendships developed that would last as long as forever. And that's a long time. Today, girls and boys find meaningful friendships increase happiness, promote good behavior, and lessen life stresses.
