Donald Clarence Rogers went from living in a small town in Illinois to Camp Wheeler, Georgia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and finally Fort Dix, New Jersey before being shipped out to England during World War II. As a member of the 9th Infantry Division, 39th Regiment, Headquarters Reconnaissance Troop, he went to various locations in North Africa, Sicily, France, Belgium, and Germany, earning a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, and five Campaign Medals. Everyone called him "9 Lives Rogers" because he avoided death so many times.
