Born in Dublin, into an Anglican family, he converted to Catholicism and joined the Jesuits. Among his published works are Medievalism: A Reply to Cardinal Mercier, The Autobiography of George Tyrrell, The Programme of Modernism, External Religion, and Tradition and the Critical Spirit.
