The purpose is that they would characterise who we are and motivate what we do. But what exactly is love, and what role does God want it to play in our lives?

Neither merely a feeling nor simply a choice that you make. Love is a motive and the way in which we place true value in other people. Sourced and sustained in God, the beauty of this gift defies description, yet inspires us to try. Love is the greatest of these.
