Paul Kretzmann's Popular Commentary on the Whole Bible was written in the early twentieth-century, and continues to be used by both pastors and laity today. He writes on each book of Scripture from a Lutheran perspective with an emphasis on practical and theological application of the text.John Theodore Mueller writes about this work: "Its purpose is to open to the common people the portals to the marvelous treasure house of God's wisdom, not in order that people might admire the golden portals, but that they might adore the divine fullness of God's wisdom and truth.
