The study of Ruth is about the story of one small, ordinary Jewish family seemingly chosen and "divinely" highlighted among other families during a very dark and chaotic time in Israel's history when "every man was doing what is right in their own eyes" (Judg. 21:25). The land is experiencing economic hardship due to a famine. Their circumstances are bleak, pressing them to make some hard decisions. Can you relate? The pressing question in the story is, "Will they trust God and walk by faith, or will they trust what they know and can see from their vantage point?" This is a question all humanity will ultimately have to answer, especially those who claim to know Him as Lord. Moreover, beautifully and skillfully hidden within the story is another story—a Divine story written in eternity past in the eternal counsel of the Godhead—a story of God's sovereignty and providence. You will see it unfold as the study progresses, and in the end, you will bow in reverence and marvel at the God of your salvation
