Calvin 1999] concurred in Matt 23:23 establishing the need for Pharisees and Christians to pay their respective tithes - i.e. 10% of their incomes (3:92); and went on to confirm this, in his seminal work, by saying: \'For there are some who deny that a commonwealth is duly framed which neglects the political system of Moses, and is ruled by the common laws of nations. Let other men consider how perilous and seditious this notion is; it will be enough for me to have proved it false and foolish\' Calvin 2002, pp. 40.20.14-16]. Thus it appears he had two positions, one which unequivocally confirmed tithes for Christians and another which suggests that tithes, along with the Law, are still applicable in the new covenant. But was Calvin correct in bringing this OT Law into the NT Gospel? Was Calvin partly responsible for the modern day endless quest for church funding which rests upon such a foundation? This academic paper will assess this and try to bring much needed clarity to the issue of Christian tithing.
