The Revelation to John was written in the first century when Christians were being persecuted because they would not renounce their faith in Jesus Christ. The Revelation is a letter circulated to seven churches with the purpose of giving hope and encouragement to believers facing difficult times.

For the most part, The Revelation was written in symbolic language that would have been understood by John’s readers but would have remained a mystery to the pagan culture that surrounded them.

About the Author

Laurence Croswell was born, raised, and educated in Alberta where he graduated from the University of Alberta. He chose to continue his studies at Brockville Bible College and Queen’s University. He became senior pastor of Centennial Road Standard Church in Brockville, Ontario in 1968 where he served for forty years. Currently, he mentors pastors in church leadership and preaches and teaches at various churches and camps.
