As the apostle Peter neared the end of his life, he saw churches threatened with false teachers from within. He warned the Christians in these churches about these false teachers. His overall aim was that they would "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet. 3:18). As one of the three apostles who were on the mountain to see Jesus transfigured in His glory, Peter assures us that he isn't making up fairy tales when he tells us about Jesus. We can trust his witness and through it grow to know Jesus more deeply. Second Peter provides us with a firm foundation for spiritual growth.
