Why do we suffer? Why do our loved ones suffer? How do we respond to suffering? Can anything good come from suffering? Suffering - physical, emotional, and spiritual - is universal, and we want answers.

Too often, we have been taught that suffering is "God's will," part of some mysterious divine plan. Studying the life of Job, listening to the teachings of Jesus, and examining our own experiences and those of others leads us to some different conclusions that enable us to understand and face suffering in better ways. Paralleling Job's story throughout this work is the true story of Marjan, a woman who experiences real, 21st Century suffering in her own life. All of these come together with the author's personal stories and anecdotes to engage us in conversations that help us make sense of suffering.

Each chapter includes "Questions for Reflection" that lead readers (individual or groups) in asking new questions about their own lives and applying the chapter discussions to daily life.
