"The book of Psalms is a collection of Hebrew poetry originally written as praise to the Hebrew God Yahweh. The 150 psalms have several different authors-one of the most famous is King David. While he wrote almost half of them, his son Solomon and many others contributed to this collection of ancient poems which essentially became a Jewish hymnbook. One of the most striking characteristics of the book is the heart-felt earnestness of the authors. They don't hold back as they write about anger, revenge, jealousy-as well as their desire for God's glory and honor to be spread throughout the earth.
