This Psalm is one from King David's writings at a time of lament attempting to trust in the LORD during a problematic time of his life. In my online research, it is believed to be written during the tribulation with Absalom and David, the son's intent to kill his father. This is a terrible thing David had to face and resolve. We all know how that ended and it was not good for Absalom. Of course a father loves his son and would never wish him harm but this time David had to step back and pray. How many times have we prayed for our children? And always for good, and not for harm; we pray the blood of Jesus over our children and protection by Psalm 91, etc., etc. King David had a few children and Absalom was troubled beyond his control, although blood was already shed through his killing of his brother Amnon. (2 Samuel 13:23-38) He was already a murderer; he killed his brother and now if he killed his father, he could take over his kingdom and reign in his stead. WRONG! The anointing was on David and no one could remove it but God.
Troubled as David was, he wrote this Psalm, in his love letters to God. They were often sung as well as written, King David was very talented. I'm glad God gives me these to study and write about too. When I do it really gets down in my spirit deep. Now does He do this for me or is it for you? Both, is still my answer. All who want to come and drink of the Living Waters may because this well has not dried up yet.
John 7:38
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, "out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
King David had a deep well. David prays for a release from his enemies and we can all learn from this Psalm today.
Some say this Psalm was written when David was fleeing Saul. So with conflicting history factors, we believe David had trouble and during this time especially he trusted in his Lord of Heaven. David was known as 'a man after God's own heart.' (Acts 13:22):
22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.'
Today, on Friday, March 28th, 2025 almost the end of the third month of this year we are learning more and more to trust in the Lord. Our hearts are heavy with what we see all around us but we cast our cares over on the Lord and trust He will care for us and remove them far from us and make a determination about them. We commit our cares to Him and expect to see a good solution for all we care about.
Trust is walking the high-wire of life with Jesus. Can we do it? Can we make it or will we fall? Jesus has a net beneath us, no worries there. Be confident in His protection; not silly or ignorant but seek Him and you will find Him. Trust Him and you will not fail but be triumphant in His stead.
