Love stories abound in our world. But if it is to be a contest on which true human love story is the best, the deepest, the most profound, the most overcoming, then the contest will quickly be over.
Hosea will win, and it will not even be particularly close.
Mind you, other love stories are certainly of note; the Song of Solomon comes to mind. But no other true human love story takes you from a breathless, unbelievably unlikely start, to the height of bliss, then to the depths of betrayal, then to the agony of brokeness, ending with reconciliation that no one could ever have seen coming, least of all the one who had done the betraying.
And all of it, though absolutely historical and true, is also the most amazing picture of the love of God for His people that could ever be imagined by the combined power of all of the most creative minds in existence.
There is simply nothing quite like it.
