    Product Description

LEWIS (1898-1963) was a respected scholar and teacher at Oxford University for 29 years and then a professor of Medieval and Renaissance literature at Cambridge University to the end of his career.

An atheist throughout his-early life, he adopted theism in 1929,and, converted to Christianity in 1931. Lewis's spiritual pilgrimage followed two tracks, both intellectual and emotional-intuitive.

Since childhood he had experienced prolonged moments of longing, the "bittersweet stab of desire." He perceived that these longings which he came to identify as joy, actually pointed away from themselves, to another world of permanence and fulfillment to God.

A talented debater and writer C. Lewis, wrote prolifically in many genres: novels, poetry, children's literature, fantasy, science fiction, literary, criticism, and apologetics. In addition, he wrote essays, sermons and hundreds of letters, rich for their insight, and human concern.

Lewis's many published works cover a wide spectrum of topics both contemporary issues and the enduring questions of human meaning in the world as creatures of God.
How do we live in the world with nuclear weapons?
How should animals be treated in scientific research?
How does, a person deal with homosexual tendencies?
How do Christians confront suffering and evil in the world?
    Does prayer really work?

Lewis addresses these and hundreds of other topics from the bedrock of biblical truth. Indeed C. S. Lewis is hailed as one of the greatest Christian thinkers of the twentieth century. The Quotable Lewis presents, hundreds of excerpts from Lewis's writings, providing ready access to his thought on each topic.

An exhaustive index references key; words and concepts allowing the reader to easily find quotes on any. subject of interest. Also included are many photographs of Lewis and his circle, some of which have never before been published.
