Risky Gospel is a call to modern Christians to break with a fearful, risk-averse faith and to embrace a Christianity driven by a great God, a powerful gospel and a holistically courageous way of life.
Do you feel pressure to act as if life is always good, everyone is nice and things are always going to get better, as if we’re all shiny and happy and upwardly mobile? We know it’s a put on. The reality is that we are living in uncertain times. The good news is not merely the alleviation of whatever ails us. The Lord offers us an exciting life to live. Jesus comes to us to embolden, not to anaesthetise.
That means the calculus of life is not security but God-driven risk. This kind of thinking means that we approach our families, churches, jobs, free time, hobbies and goals with God’s glory on our mind.
Risky Gospel attempts to wake Christians up from their serenity-seeking coma by grounding their faith not in the world of sin but in the world of Scripture. As we see in the example of Christ and his apostles, the gospel is worth living for, sacrificing for and dying for. It is the fulfillment of everything we seek. All that we could ever want is already here, and it is given to us through the Holy Spirit.
