It begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday. The length of the Lenten fast was established in the 4th century as 46 days (40 days, not counting Sundays). LENT is preparation for Easter when we choose to set aside time to focus on Jesus' death and resurrection, repent of sin, and consecrate ourselves in greater devotion to God. DURING LENT, participants may eat sparingly, or abstain from a particular food or habit to set aside time for devotion and prayer.
