In our Advent Store, everything you'll need for this important season in the Christian calendar. Many homes where Jesus’ birth is celebrated will have an Advent candle to mark the coming of the light. We have a range of candle designs to choose from, including the traditional red and gold and our bestselling Pyramid Advent Candles. There are also some Advent candles with nativity scenes, showing Mary and Joseph with the baby Jesus surrounded by shepherds. For Churches wishing to focus on the arrival of God’s son in study groups or home groups there are lots of titles, including Advent Conspiracy and Candles in the Dark, the Cover to Cover Advent Study books (the latest one is When He Comes by Graham and Molly Dow), and books by Nick Fawcett (Promises, Promises and Ready and Waiting). If you're looking for a personal study to focus on during Advent we have a selection of devotional books. Some of the most popular are The Purpose of Christmas by Rick Warren and Pilgrims To The Manger by Naomi Starkey. Advent calendars are popular with families as they begin the countdown to Christmas - our calendars retain the Christian focus of advent with relevant Bible verses - and some even have chocolate! Church ministers and layreaders often need resources to help them with the services through Advent. Items to watch out for here are Bethlehem Carols Unpacked by Lucy Moore and Martyn Pane and Watching and Waiting by Kenneth Stevenson. |
Advent CandlesThe lighting of Advent candles has been a popular tradition in churches and with familes in the four weeks leading to to Christmas. Often the candles are placed in the centre of a wreath of green leaves which symbolise continous life.
Lighting the advent candle can be made part of a family devotional time, with verses from the nativity store, carols and questions reminding children, and adults of the central message of Christmas during an otherwise hectic time of year.
