Full Product Description
Black people of African origin and descent have lived in Britain for many centuries. By the late 18th Century an increasing number were active Christians. Long before Empire Windrush arrived in Tilbury in mid-1948, black Britons worked as missionaries, evangelists, doctors, ministers and political activists, as well as in non-professional roles.
Many black Britons are little known and largely forgotten. Here they touchingly describe their lives, faith, work, families, their hopes and ambitions, all part of a rich and fascinating seam of British history that has been generally ignored.
This intimate portrait will inform black Christians today of their heritage, while helping white Christians to understand more about the diversity of Britains cultural background.
Black Voices by David Killingray & Joel Edwards was published by Intervarsity Press in March 2007. The ISBN for Black Voices is 9781844741816.

Black VoicesMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
This is a very welcome book, setting out as it does the long involvement in the UK of Black people from around the world by quoting from the writings that are still in existence. Almost all the names of those quoted will be unfamiliar to the majority of readers, and much of the information here will sadly come as a surprise to many. This makes Black Voices important for Christians both black and white, to read and learn more of what has happened in the past from the writings of people who were there and involved. Here are Black Voices from the 18th Century to the present day, accompanied by information, sources and notes to inform readers. Well worth while reading.
