A Commentary on ActsPaul Scott, via The Good Book Stall
Yon Gyong Kwon’s is certainly a detailed discussion of what is a very important book. It is clear and well presented. The reader is taken verse by verse through the text, the whole being subdivided into study length sections with additional ‘interpretation’ and ‘study suggestion’ summaries. There is also a series of four ‘theological essays’ exploring Acts themes.
Some measure of explanation with cross-references is offered for each verse and this will be immensely useful to the more literal reader. However Acts is one of the most difficult books of the New Testament to evaluate. Unlike the Gospels where we have four versions to compare, here we only have one. It is therefore important to use whatever sources are available to help us sift the text. This is largely missing from the discussion so that the book gives a very monochromatic view. Having said that, there is much here to stimulate further reading.
