More about the translation

This revised and updated edition of the NIV includes three main types of change, taking into account changes in the way we use language day to day; advances in biblical scholarship and understanding; and the need to ensure that gender accurate language is used, to faithfully reflect whether men and women are referred to in each instance. The translators have carefully assessed a huge body of scholarship, as well as inviting peer submissions, in order to review every word of the existing NIV to ensure it remains as clear and relevant today as when it was first published.

Royalties from all sales of the NIV Bible help Biblica, formerly the International Bible Society, in their work of translating and distributing Bibles around the world.

NIV Popular Cross-Reference Bible by New International Version was published by Hodder & Stoughton in June 2011 and is our 999th best seller. The ISBN for NIV Popular Cross-Reference Bible is 9781444701548.

Q:

I have the 7.5pt thinline version, and while I like it, it is a bit too small type to use as a desk Bible: it doesn't stay open at the passage very well when not held down. Is this version better, or does the bonded leather make it close as well?

A:Hi Matt, Thank you for your question. This particular edition does not lie flat on a surface. I have found the following edition which lies flat and may be of interest to you: http://www.eden.co.uk/shop/niv-reference-bible-large-print-hardcover-4263019.html Yours, Nia
Q:

Is it with gold gilt page edges and protective slipcase. Pls let me know which is good against NIV Black Bonded Leather Thinline Bible.

A:Hi Ashi, Thank you for your question. This Bible features gold gilt edged pages and a protective box. Yours, Nia
Q:

Is there an introduction, or overview (mentioned in the description) at the beginning of each book of this Bible, please ?

A:Hi Sheila, Thank you for your question. This anglicised Bible does include a book by book overview. Yours, Nia
Q:

Is this a floppy leather cover ?

How many pages altogether ?

Does it have any maps ?

A:Hi Mark, thanks for your question about this edition of the NIV popular cross-reference Bible. Firstly this is a popular edition which means it's built to a budget price for its cover and contents. The cover is bonded leather, which tends to be a bit stiff rather than floppy like an imitation leather or calfskin. There are 1344 pages, and it will have the usual maps of a standard Bible - not the more complete maps that you'd find in a study Bible or in other extensive resource rich editions. It is, none the less, a good value Bible with everything you'd need to enhance your Bible reading and study with the ability to cross reference one Bible passage with similar themes and events in other parts of scripture; and it's in a durable cover with the qualities of bonded leather. Yours, Les
Q:

I searched through your website and I could only find 2011 version of the NIV.

A:The NIV was completely updated in 2011. Almost all subsequent editions use this update. However, the NIV Life Application Study Bible: Hardback (Eden product code 1481) still uses the 1984 (UK release date for 1983 US edition) translation. Available here: http://www.eden.co.uk/niv-life-application-study-bible-hardback/ Order now, as future reprints may well move on to the 2011 edition.
