Closes: 15 May 2026

We’re a growing and lively church in the heart of Daybrook, with a mix of both traditional and modern worship styles. Over the last three years, our children and youth ministry has been an exciting part of that journey, growing to around 30 children and young people regularly taking part in our groups on Sundays and in our mid-week meet ups. We are looking for someone to come and build on the foundations we have established for this ministry and help us to continue to reach out and nurture the young people and families of our parish. Our parish is on the outskirts of Nottingham and includes a diverse community, with some areas facing real challenges like high unemployment and limited resources. Overall, it ranks in the lower 20% on the Church of England’s Parish Index. Around 25% of our local population is under 18, so there’s a great opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people here. We run kids and youth groups during our 4:00pm Sunday services, offering a variety of fun activities and meaningful teaching to help them explore and grow in their own faith. Our service patterns, times, and styles are continuing to grow and evolve, and we want to make sure children and young people know there’s always a place for them. Beyond Sundays, we are proud to be actively involved in our local parish community through links to our local church school, Burntstump Seely CofE Primary Academy, a range of regular and seasonal activities, including groups for young families and seasonal celebrations that welcome people of all ages. In the summer months, it’s been a joy to take some of our young people away on residential trips - an experience that’s helped them grow in faith, build friendships, and connect with young people from other churches.

Relational. Reflective. Rooted in faith. Create outdoor experiences where young people encounter the hope and truth of Jesus. Salary: £20,631 - £21,889 (depending upon experience) per annum, plus accommodation (which carries a value of £5,589 for pension purposes) plus generous employer pension and other benefits contributions Contract: Full time*/Fixed term for 3 years (*part time hours may be considered) Start date: August 2026 Who we are: Scripture Union Scotland is a national charity, with around 140 staff and over 2,500 volunteers. Our vision is to see every child and young person of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. At Alltnacriche, we pursue that vision through authentic, relational experiences in the outdoors - and we're now building something new. We're establishing a dedicated strand of work to support children and young people who face additional support needs, trauma, or barriers to engagement, alongside our existing residential programme. This work is already making a difference, and we're seeking someone to help deliver it with consistency and care, and to grow in the role as it develops. We're also developing dedicated indoor facilities to support this work year-round, creating a welcoming base for participants and a platform for future growth. Living on site and as part of an intentional community, you'll instruct across Alltnacriche's wider outdoor programme for schools, youth groups, and visiting organisations, while also designing and delivering dedicated sessions for young people with additional support needs. You'll help young people build emotional regulation, social connection, and confidence - and you'll bring inclusive, relational practice into every setting you work in. Over time, you'll also help shape new activities, strengthen inclusive practice within the team, and build relationships with the schools and partners we serve. You'll join a team that reflects together, prays together, and shares a deep commitment to seeing young people encounter Jesus through meaningful experiences and trusted relationships. The faith dimension of this work isn't peripheral - it's the reason we do it. Purpose: This post exists to deliver and develop outdoor learning initiatives that expresses SU Scotland’s vision, particularly among children and young people with diverse support needs — including those with additional support needs (ASN), experiences of trauma, and social marginalisation. The initial focus will be on delivering the Growing Together Programme — a structured outdoor intervention that helps children build emotional regulation, social connection, and confidence through relational, values-led practice. Key Responsibilities: 1. Delivery outdoor instruction across Alltnacriche's wider programme for children and young people, bringing inclusive and relational practice into every setting. 2. Deliver the Growing Together programme designed specifically for children and young people with additional support needs. 3. Build safe, consistent relationships with children and young people, through a trauma informed, relational lens that sees each individual as more then their presenting needs. 4. Contribute to the culture of reflection and improvement, using debriefs, stakeholder feedback and session review to inform your work. 5. Participate fully in the life and ministry of Alltnacriche and the wider Scripture Union Scotland organisation We are looking for someone who has a genuine desire to share the hope of Jesus with children and young people through relationship and experience, who has a passion for inclusion, relationship, and outdoor learning and who has experience working with children and young people with ASN, trauma, or behaviour-related needs. The successful applicant will have skills and qualifications to deliver our outdoor programme. We’ll invest in the right person through opportunities including accredited trauma-informed training, a Wilderness Ministry course in Austria, and full certification in Reality Therapy, an approach that supports young people in taking ownership of their choices and building healthier relationships. All training is considered through a Biblical lens, with the ultimate aim of equipping you to create spaces where young people can encounter and respond to the Christian faith. We’re also open to other pathways that support your growth in this role. For this post, it is important that you are committed to SU Scotland’s ethos, working principles and vision and are able to demonstrate this through your commitment and motivation. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act - part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian. The successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure. More information and an application pack can be downloaded from our website: www.suscotland.org.uk/job Alternatively, if you'd like to have an informal chat to find out more, please contact dave.moss@suscotland.org.uk. 125 Years of the Dohnavur Fellowship - Amy Carmichael – her vision lives on

Friends of Dohnavur

Posted 2 days ago

Come and join us as we celebrate the 125 years of the Dohnavur Fellowship, India. Established 125 years ago by the Irish missionary Amy Carmichael. Founded originally in 1901 by Amy Carmichael (fondly known as ‘Amma’) as a home for rescued children, the good work continues today as a wholly independently run Indian Christian organisation comprising many descendants of the Fellowship who grew up and chose to dedicate their lives to sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others in need. This year is the 125th anniversary of the ministry of the Dohnavur Fellowship (DF) and we want to take this opportunity to give thanks to God for His faithfulness through these years. We are excited that Jerry Rajanesan (the CEO) and his wife Vasanthakumari have accepted an invitation to visit the UK from Dohnavur for three weeks in April 2026. Please see overleaf for dates and times of special events that you are welcomed to. During these events you will be able to enjoy videos of both the children and the 'starry cluster' singing. Amy Carmichael wrote many books, a number of which are still in print, as well as compilations from her unpublished writings. Those who worked with her, and some who knew her, have also written about Amy and the work of the Fellowship.

The Dohnavur Fellowship was founded by Amy Carmichael she was a missionary who with a small band of Indian Christian women, moved from place to place, preaching and teaching, and many turned to the Lord. Then in 1901, God sent to her a seven-year-old girl who had escaped from a Hindu temple. She told Amy of the practice, which is now illegal, of dedicating little girls to the gods and training them to be temple prostitutes. God told Amy to save such children, as well as others who had no one to care for them or were being abused. She was to make a home for them (and boys also from 1918-1984) and to bring them up to know and serve the Lord Jesus Christ and be His witnesses. The need to provide for children who are unwanted or abused remains, but the government now aims to have those under the age of five adopted, so only those aged five and over are permitted to come to Dohnavur.
