The word ‘orthodoxy’ can conjure up ideas of control, of ticking boxes of correct belief and authoritarian dominance. This book offers a tantalizingly different vision, suggesting that ‘generosity’ and 'orthodoxy’ are not in competition with each other, but rather that it is in the very nature of orthodoxy to be generative of creative thinking and exploration.

A companion volume to The Bond of Peace: Exploring Generous Orthodoxy, Graham Tomlin’s invigorating personal vision is rooted in the creeds’ description of a God who is, in his very nature, generous grace. And so, while recognizing that orthodoxy has limits beyond which it is not safe for us mortals to go, we may be assured that adopting an attitude of generosity towards other Christians and those outside the Christian faith is right and proper, and will result in a bigger, richer and far more invigorating vision of the world than any secular construction could ever offer.
