These beautifully written, down to earth and compassionate meditations will help those of us who enjoy cultural, political or economic privileges to be mindful of the many who do not share them. We will find ourselves being ‘dispatched’ by God to get our minds off ourselves and to live for the sake of others. I strongly recommend you to use and ponder these prayers, many of which start from Bible stories or events in the world, and find yourself changed in the process. Brueggemann’s concern for justice and freedom will make this a ‘subversive’ exercise, in which you refuse to accept the way things are.
