When young Lessa Hughes is left to care for her ailing father, she enlists the help of a peculiar neighbor woman, Patricia Marr. But in a panic, Lessa flees her family farm, fearing loss and danger at the hands of Jeb Wheeler.

While packing a duffel for her journey, Lessa discovers a unique candle among her father's few prized possessions and feels she must take it along.
