Canto del Aqua is the missionary story of Joe and Jeannette Hocking as told by their daughter Ruth Hertzler. In 1938, the newlywed Hockings left their home in New Jersey for Christian mission work in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. They established a fellowship in Pucallpa and Yarina Cocha while raising six children and supporting their Peruvian community. Their mission was a beacon for Wycliffe Bible Translators and other missionaries. Canto del Aqua shares their story and photos, sourced from 40 years of Joe's diaries and Ruth's memories and experiences growing up in Peru.
Canto del Aqua means waterside or song of the water. Joe and Jeannette worked alongside the rivers of the Amazon throughout their mission. Their desire was that by finding God, He would bring a song into the hearts of those who received the message.
