      Product Description

HAVE THE GODS LEFT US? This book is a quest for divine guidance. It explores the demise of the Greek oracle religion in the first century AD, as it was experienced by the Greek philosopher-priest Plutarch and his learned friends near that famous oracular site of old, Delphi. While the Greeks mourned the silence of the gods, a new religion was spreading in the Roman Empire, confidentely claiming newly received oracles of the living God. In many ways the journey in this book is a comparison of the old oracles and the new. It is a quest that also shows a profound light on the nature of the Scripture as it was perceived by the early Christians.Prof. dr. Benno Zuiddam is a New Testament and Classical scholar. He received his education at Farel College Amersfoort and the universities of Kampen, Utrecht, Bloemfontein and Potchefstroom. Professor Zuiddam earned doctorates in Theology as well as classical Greek. After serving as professor extraordinary with the School of Ancient languages and Biblical studies, he became research professor with the theological faculty of North-West University (South Africa) and senior fellow with the Research Centre for Early Christianity at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Tilburg University (Netherlands).
