An Excellent Christmas Message But There's a Problem - Hugh in Didcot, having fun with God
The dvd draws in many of the characters made popular in the growing What's in the Bible? series and explains very well for children and adults alike why we call the celebration Christmas, why we use trees and the origina of Santa Claus though not Father Christmas and finishes with a brief but sensitive challenge to respond to the truth of the Christmas story. In my opinion, all that is very good. However, one of the characters which features for the first time in this DVD is an Indian with a strong accent who pulls a rickshaw. The problem is that rather than have him as a human being, they have him as a monkey, which just feels a little racist to me. I had hoped to show this in school and to parent and toddler groups but I daren't risk it.
Exceptional, fun and informative - John (in the furthest place in the UK from the beach)
This is an excellent DVD that works through why we call it Christmas (unsurprisingly given the title of the DVD), when Jesus was born, why we celebrate his birthday on the 25th Dec, Christmas trees, Santa Claus (so much better than the VeggieTales offering on this), Hannukah and most importantly: the real meaning of Christmas. Absolutely spot on - informative and fun and a clear presentation of the gospel all aimed at Children aged 5-11. Highly recommended.
