Asian Dub Foundation join Greenbelt lineup

Greenbelt, the premier Christian arts festival, has announced some late additions to its line up, including the critically acclaimed Asian Dub Foundation.

ADF, who are well known for their imaginative and high octane fusion of Rap, Jungle and Ragga music and socially conscious lyrics - are widely thought to be one of the UK’s most exciting live bands.

Contributing a very different Eastern vibe to the proceedings, are Aradhna, the duo who play Sitar driven spiritual tunes. Their music – beautiful and brooding – draws directly from the diversity of sounds they have heard in India and Nepal, as well as musical sensibilities they’ve picked up in their native North America.

They will be appearing at the event as part of a rare UK tour taking in Edinburgh, Harrow and Southall.

Also appearing on the bill is soul artist Josh Osho, a rising British star whose personal story includes spells of homelessness and even a brief career as a drug dealer, before finding his vocation in Soul music.

And one-time pop star turned alt-rocker, Charlie Simpson, the former member of boy band ‘Busted’ who has successfully shaken off his pop mantle in favour of a more serious reputation as an Indie rock artist has also confirmed his attendance, as has leading beat-boxer Shlomo.

Simpson, whose rise to fame in a boy band has somewhat coloured people's expectations of him, has fought hard to gain a reputation as an Indie rocker with his band Fightstar. And along the way he has found faith, after going on an Alpha course.

Earlier in the year it was announced that human rights campaigner and 'Secularist of the year' Peter Tatchell would be appearing at Greenbelt, a previous appearance at the 2010 festival led to Anglican Mainstream calling for a boycott of the event.

The stages now set, Greenbelt 2012 ‘Saving Paradise’ will be held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Friday 24 – Monday 27 August. Tickets are still available from the Festival website.
