Eden Awards 2018: Children's Categories

Laura White

and the nominees for the Eden Awards Children's categories are...

Eden Awards Banner

The annual Eden awards are back! A chance to celebrate the best of the Christian publishing industry from the past year.

We start our nominations announcement with the children’s categories. These are the resources that have told great truths with simple words. They teach children, instruct them, and help them grow into becoming men and women of God, all the while being fun and entertaining. No easy feat.

And so it is with great admiration that we announce the nominees for the best children’s resources for this year’s Eden awards.

Children’s Book of the Year

Knowing God by J. John

Canon J. John turned his hand to children’s stories this year. Opening up profound theology and Bible study for even the littlest of little ones.

Through the use of simple text and stunning images, Knowing God shows why the stories of the Bible are so important.

Diary of a Disciple: Peter and Paul’s Story by Gemma Willis

It would have been difficult to top the phenomenal success of Diary of a Disciple: Luke’s Story which still continues to be a bestseller. But Gemma bravely approached it with a wacky, full-action interpretation of the story of Acts.

Calling upon her characteristic humour and fizzing excitement as well as brightly coloured doodles throughout Diary of a Disciple: Peter and Paul’s Story is the perfect way to get 8-12s excited about the stories of the early Church.

A Really Incredible Feast (and other Amazing Stories of Jesus) by Johanna Baldwin

This larger format, rhyming book has been a hit with Sunday Schools. Using enticing rhymes and bright illustrations, A Really Incredible Feast has bought the miracles of Jesus to life for 5-8s.

The stories are perfect for Sunday Schools but are also sure to be a bedtime favourite.

God’s Very Good Idea by Trillia J. Newball

In a world that can feel less and less tolerant, it feels like an impossible feat to teach children about diversity.

That's where this book comes in. God's Very Good Idea is a timely, bright, and inspiring book with a unique message: That because God made everyone unique, special and in his image, we should love everyone like we love God

Indescribable: 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science by Louie Giglio

Pastor Louie Giglio has amazed a generation with his “indescribable” passion talk. Now he turns his attention to a new generation with a collection of exciting, eye-opening devotions exploring all things God and science.

Children will be captivated from the bright, busy front cover to the engaging topics of space, earth, geology, animals and the mind. Each devotion includes a “be amazed” fact file, hands-on activities and a prayer, sure to engage even the shortest of attention spas.

Everyone a Child Should Know by Clare Heath-Whyte

Another bold follow up on a popular, bestselling series.

Everyone a Child Should know takes a look at 52 men and women who followed God. From Brother Andrew to John Wycliffe, and from Florence Nightingale to Katie Luther, these are the people who made a difference.

Each story is told in simple language with captivating illustrations.

Children’s CD of the Year

Children’s CD of the Year

Getty Kid’s Hymnal: For the Cause by Keith and Kristyn Getty

Last year we said: “Praise and worship CDs for kids aren't in short supply, but Hymns seems to have gone amiss somewhere down the line.”

The Gettys had already tried to counteract this with one hymns collection but they’ve gone a step further with For the Cause. Sung by kids for kids this hymnal is a great resource for Sunday Schools to encourage children in meaningful worship.

Good Good Father by Kid's Praise! Company

Of course, we all love the classics. But new songs are really great too! Good Good Father brings together today’s best worship songs for children to enjoy.

From 10,000 reasons to Oceans and of course, the title anthem: Good, Good Father all performed by an award-winning worship team and choir.

Listen Up! Songs From The Parables Of Jesus by Sovereign Grace Kids

Kids love stories. Kids love singing. So why not combine the two to make one faith-filled, high impact album? That’s what Sovereign Grace Kids have done!

The songs on this album unpack 13 of those parables in a way that's memorable and fun for kids.

Essential Songs For Kids - Every Move I Make by Essential Christian

The newest addition to the children’s music category. Every Move I make showcases 12 sensational songs of praise for kids written by top songwriters including Doug Horley, Nick & Becky Drake, Big Ministries and Pete James.

Full of energy and praise songs include Every Move I Make, One For All, Creator God and Disciples Of Jesus.
