The Search for SpiritualityJohn Irvine, via The Good Book Stall
The subtitle of Ursula King’s latest book is Our global quest for meaning and fulfilment and in the book she looks at the worldwide experience of spirituality and the various ways different people and societies attempt to find the meaning and fulfilment that will satisfy their spiritual hunger. We live in a world filled with unhappiness, fear and disaster and we are looking for spiritual guidance in order to create a fairer, safer, more loving world. She first considers the meaning of spirituality and discusses how it is different from traditional religion, examining not only Christianity but other religious traditions. She then considers spirituality in relation to the arts and science and nature. She finishes with a vision of hope and harmony that is realisable, not a Utopia only to be dreamed of. This is a positive and challenging book to be read by those longing for spiritual awakening in a selfish and fractured world.
