Where Wild Flowers BloomMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
A light read for a weekend or a holiday. Nothing specifically ‘Christian’ apart from the main character being a believer and at the last remembering to pray!
The civil war in the states has ended, leaving bereaved families, injured ex-soldiers and an unsettled populace. Many in the affected areas are wanting to leave on the Oregon Trail to find pastures new in the west, Faith Lindberg among them.
Faith is a young woman with heavy responsibilities. Her grandmother and mother died when she was young, now her father and brother have been killed in the war and she is left with no-one but her grandfather, Judge Lindberg, who is getting very forgetful and unable to cope with the running of the store which has been a central feature of their little town of Noble Springs, Missouri.
When her grandfather agrees to Faith taking over the running of the store, she devises a plan to sell up and move them both to the west, to leave their sad memories behind. But what about the man she thinks she loves and the man who obviously loves her?
There is more to this story than this outline tells, and it’s a good read!
