I Want to be an Airline PilotMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
A very realistic story of three orphans in the aftermath of the Rwandan civil war. Their parents have been killed and Shema aged eight with his older sister Ishimwe aged twelve live together in a tumbledown hut with their little brother Maji aged five. Shema helps his sister keep house by fetching water and earning money minding a neighbours goats. It is a very hard life, Shema would love to go to school but the children can’t afford to buy him a uniform or any new clothes for themselves. As the story unfolds Shema meets kind people who help and teach him about Jesus and scary people who are not nice at all, but it all comes happily right for them all, and maybe Shema will be an airline pilot one day, who knows? A lovely story for 8-11s which sadly could so easily be really true.
