Three Minutes of HopeMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
Hugo Gryn, 1930-1996, became a Jewish Rabbi of immense repute, known and revered by all who met him, Jews, Christians and other religions too. These are edited transcripts of some of the broadcasts he made over many years. He was a survivor of the Holocaust and in the first and last of these passages he movingly refers to that experience. The first section is entitled Hugo’s Anecdotage, following sections are series of talks on the Jewish Calendar: Five Books of Moses: The Prophets and other Books of the Bible: Loving Your Neighbour and the Stranger: Hugo’s Spiritual Heroes and the Jewish World: Second World War and the Holocaust.
These have all been lovingly compiled into this book by his daughter Naomi, and through her introduction together with the foreword by Michael Buerk, who worked closely with Hugo during many programmes, the reader is privileged to feel they have come to some knowledge of this remarkable man.
It took me a time to read this book. Each short piece required a quiet time of reflection after the reading. Highly recommended.
