The New Testament: A Very Short IntroductionPaul Scott, via The Good Book Stall
This little book offers an overview of the New Testament that can hardly be faulted.
It admits the reader into the minds of those who had a hand in fashioning what we now have as gospels (with Acts), letters and Revelation (this being appended to John’s gospel). It is a marvel of brevity. Every sentence is focussed and concise, and paragraphs whilst short make their point. Biblical passages are referenced so that the reader will find their Bible reading enlightened.
Its language is generally easy but on occasion the inclusion of a glossary could have been beneficial in broadening its readership. Even for the those who have worked with their Bibles for years there are occasional new things – did you know that St Paul was the earliest self-designated Pharisee? The book is to be thoroughly recommended. For anyone who wants to discover how such a variety of writings as those of the New Testament can be an integrated whole and therefore to discover how its Gospel message transcends them all, then this is their book.
