This bespoke compilation gathers together their most-loved hymns and reinforces the reasons why they are popular worship leaders at the Keswick convention. Flowing, inspirational and memorable melodies abound alongside theologically rich and poetic lyrics. For example: 'We Have An Anchor' is a re-working of anthemic hymn 'Will Your Anchor Hold', where the original chorus line remains, but with an added fresh melody and words to the verses.
'O The Depth And The Height' was inspired by Romans 11:33 and expresses how Jesus is the pearl of great price, our greatest treasure in this life and beyond. And the beautiful 'Be Merciful' was written as a paraphrase of Psalm 67 by early 19th Century English hymn writer Josiah Conder, who played a significant political role in the early stages of the Abolition of Slavery around the world. This hymn is a wonderful prayer for God to be made known to the nations.
This is an excellent album for personal devotions but also, a great resource for worship teams and choirs. There is also a songbook for the album with piano-vocal scores and song notes.
Colin & Phil write...
'Hymns contain theologically rich lyrics with diverse themes and qualities that are largely absent in many modern songs, this is why we are drawn to them. But sometimes fresh arrangements and melodies can breathe new life into old hymns and make them more appealing to the next generation. We appreciate some people may not like their favourite hymns being 'tampered with' but the truth is, many of the 'old melodies' were not the original melodies at all. That being said, we hope you find our arrangements sympathetically crafted, so as to add and not take away from the authors' original purpose which is, to glorify God.'
The Hymns Project: We Have An Anchor by Colin Webster; Phil Moore was published by Essential Christian in July 2018 and is our 4643rd best seller. The ISBN for The Hymns Project: We Have An Anchor is 5021776233039.
Keswick Convention worship leaders Webster and Moore are so good in delivering the anthemic hymns for which Keswick is so well known. Four of these songs are completely new, penned by themselves, among which I particularly liked "Holy Father Rich In Mercy" (strong Trinitarian lyrics) and "Your Great Love" (catchy riff between the verses). The title track uses the stirring original words and chorus tune to which Webster has added extras which make the song even more accessible. He does the same thing on "Rock Of Ages" where he takes the first two lines and uses them as another chorus. That hymn was incidentally nominated as one of the Great Four Anglican Hymns of the 19th century. These two worship leaders really have got the knack of giving us singable, inspiring hymns with great arrangements. Several tracks have a strong Celtic feel, to which the flute and whistle make a great contribution. The new versions bring a worshipful fresh touch to the old. 8/10
