The AngelNear the top of my tree, I always put an angel.
Angels are God's special messengers, bringing good news for all the world. It was an angel who first told Mary and Joseph of the coming of a Saviour, and it was angels who informed the shepherds that a Saviour had been born for all people—Christ the Lord.
Frequently, the Bible describes the angels singing. Have you ever wondered what angels sing about?
The Angels Sing of a Saviour in a Manger
The first news of the birth of Jesus was not given to kings, or sent to Mary's relatives, nor even made known in the 'births' column of the local press! Angels brought the news to humble shepherds, telling them:
Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. (Luke 2:10–12)
The Angels Sing of a Saviour in the HeartJesus said that whenever a person repents (turns back to God), and invites him in to share their lives (hearts), the angels in heaven rejoice and sing for joy:
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. (Luke 15:7)
The Angels Sing of a Saviour on the ThroneThe Bible tells us that in heaven there will be a vast number of angels praising God for all that he has done for humankind by sending his only son to be the Saviour of the world.
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels in a circle around the throne, as well as the living creatures and the elders. Their number was ten thousand times ten thousand — thousands times thousands –all of whom were singing in a loud voice: "Worthy is the lamb who was killed to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and praise!" (Rev 5:11–12)
The angels still praise God every day and every night for sending Jesus to our world; and the angel on our Christmas tree reminds us to join with them in praising God this Christmas!
