Product Description

John Goldingay’s editorship of the The Old Testament guides and commentaries of the popular for Everyone Series has proved the perfect combination of scholarship and readability for deepening your understanding of the first 39 books of the Bible.

In New Testament times, the poetry and prayers were on the lips and in the hearts of the people who heard and watched Jesus as he travelled and taught. An understanding of the tradition, content and meaning of the book of Psalms is essential to your understanding the language and imagery of the Gospels.

Now in his Psalms for Everyone, John shares with you in his knowledge and experience with characteristic concise and sometimes witty down-to-earth understanding. Helping you deepen relationship with the Psalms - whether you’re already familiar with its wisdom and poetry, or just getting started, this is a key addition to your Bible commentaries library.

John Goldingay is the David Allan Hubbard Professor of Old Testament in the School of Theology at the Fuller Theological Seminary in the USA. Prior to joining Fuller, he was principal and a professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at St John's Theological College, Nottingham. His published titles include Old Testament Theology (two volumes published, with more to come) and commentaries on Daniel, Isaiah, and Psalms. As well as being a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, he serves on the editorial board for the Library of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament Studies.
Using personal anecdote, a witty and lively style, and drawing on his considerable theological knowledge, John Goldingay takes us deep into the unfolding story of the Old Testament.
