Prayer That Gets AnswersBob Stoneham, via The Good Book Stall
In this book Colin Dye discusses the use of prayer. He puts prayer into the whole context of our Christian life. He stresses what a great privilege we have with prayer, the ability to talk to God. He highlights that there is no point in praying unless we truly believe that God listens and responds to our prayers. The response can range from that quiet whisper in the mind to an amazing act, but unless we truly trust in God the prayer is wasted.
Unlike several other writers on the topic of prayer, Colin identifies three stages in prayer. Firstly when we bring points for prayer before the Lord, and wait for his response. Colin notes that these should never be selfish issues but heartfelt concerns for others. Secondly is God’s response, where the Lord makes it know to us what specific issues we should pray for, Colin stresses that we need to wait on the Lord for the direction of what we should pray for and the Lord s guidance with these prayers, also, that we may need to be persistent in our prayers. When we pray for those issues, then will the Lord answer our prayers.
Colin also looks at the issues of giving and fasting and how our attitude in these areas is reflected in our prayer life and in our Christian life.
