The long-awaited and highly anticipated 2nd solo album from the female worship sensation, Kim Walker-Smith, has finally arrived. 'Still Believe' is set to become the album of 2013 – read on for a track-by-track review, to listen to samples and watch Kim explain her heart behind the album, all on Eden.co.uk.
Growing up in the Jesus Culture Band, Kim Walker-Smith has matured and grown into a shining example of heart-felt worship. With 7 original tracks plus 2 extra special treats, 'Still Believe' showcases her rich and pitch-perfect vocal skills and her song writing talents as worshippers gathered in the Cascade Theater in Redding, California, for an evening of deeply spiritual and healing-focused worship.
Kim explains that the heart behind the album was to create a heart-affirming experience that points to God as our healer. Throughout the album you'll hear and sing about God's heart for us and feel her words of faith guiding you into his healing presence. Kim's genuine faith and desire to usher in God's presence soaks this encouraging album, making it a real, raw and refreshing worship experience.
This anointed evening of worship has been captured and crystallised forever – for us to use as a powerful tool in healing moments, both personal and corporate.
Still Believe CD by Kim Walker-Smith was published by Elevation in November 2012 and is our 2910th best seller. The ISBN for Still Believe CD is ELE1817D.
The debut album from Kim and Skyler performing together. Recorded in January at home, where a full band stayed in residence throughout the writing and recording process.
The resulting songs feature the intimacy and power of a group of passionate believers writing and playing out of a sense of collective warmth and understanding.
The album features all new songs written by Skyler and Kim within this context.
Skyler and Kim Walker-Smith have been married since 2009 and have since been developing who they are as a team and exploring what God has created them to do together.
• Song which captures passionate faith – even in hardships, we still believe God can heal us
• Incredibly powerful song, fills your heart with strength and belief
• Soundtrack to healing rooms, ministry moments and personal prayer times for healing
SPIRIT BREAK OUT (from Worship Central's popular album)
• Beautiful string accompaniment adds new dimension to this epic worship track
• Intensely passionate praise, including a spontaneous flourish from Kim
• Female strong vocal is a refreshing change from the male dominance of worship music
WASTE IT ALL
• Puts a Biblical expression of worship into song – the women who poured perfume on Jesus' feet
• Beautifully lyrical: "I'm gonna waste it all on you / I'm going to pour my hearts perfume"
MIRACLE MAKER (the Delirious classic)
• Forgotten British anthem given new life with dramatic highs and lows, plus gorgeous strings
• Stunning song – stops you in your tracks and draws you into worship
• A real treat! Something no-one was expecting that is incredibly powerful
These days you can never predict the opening track of a worship album. Sometimes they lose focus and try to go over-the-top, letting the really purpose of worship slip through the guitar solos and hip techno sounds. But this track is a hard-hitting worship song through and through.
Kim Walker-Smith's rich vocals remind me of Florence & the Machine as she sings the first verse with power and sheer elegance accompanied by a piano. Pounding drums bring extra energy and a screeching guitar echoes Kim beautiful melody on the chorus. Excellent opener full of praise.
2. WASTE IT ALL
It's hard to predict what this song is about from just the title – so here's the chorus:
"I'm gonna waste it all on you / I'm gonna pour my hearts perfume
I don't care if I'm called a fool / I'm wasting it all on you."
Now the songs meaning is clear – its love song to God inspired by the extravagant women who poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet. From a thankful heart Kim sings with genuine affection, proving her song writing and worship leading comes from an overflowing love for God. Towards the end she breaks free from the rigid structure of lyrics and pours out sweet-smelling, free-flowing worship behind a gorgeous string section creating an extravagant fragrance of beautiful worship.
3. THE KING IS HERE
Over 9 minutes long, this song riffs around the awesome reality the King of Glory is here – in your car, in your workplace, in your churches and everywhere. It rises and falls more than a rollercoaster!
3 tracks in and it becomes obvious, Kim is not concerned with making an album to make money, or create a work of musical art with her face on the front. Her goals were to worship, to create an evening of epic, Christ-centred, worship-filled event giving God all the glory. Thank God they pressed record so we can experience and worship with this rare talent.
4. YIELD MY HEART
The string section creates smooth warmth that washes over this calm song. Kim seems to be flowing with the Holy Spirit as she sings with passion and abandonment.
3 minutes in the guitar joins, the drums build up momentum and the strings turn up the tempo.
"I am at one with you / Nothing in this world could ever keep me from you."
If you want to fill your life with anointed worship, Kim Walker-Smith never misses the opportunity to sing from her heart with inspired words.
5. SPIRIT BREAK OUT
Many will recognise this song as the Worship Central title track, a slow-burning, atmospheric, spirit-filled song.
Naturally it's right up Kim's street – and with the addition of her string section, including a orchestral harp and twinkly glockenspiel, turn this powerful song into a worship song of monumental power, substance and beauty. I absolutely love this!
6. SPIRIT BREAK OUT – SPONTANEOUS
Flowing from the last track, the worship continues when Kim steps into the spiritual and ushers the living God into their worship.
Really they should have just keep it to one track – and if they had it would have been over 12 minutes of epic worship.
7. STILL BELIEVE
"Your blood makes the deaf to hear, right now / Your blood takes away the curse, right now
Your blood heals every disease, right now / Your blood sets the addict free, right now."
The title track of the album says it all – this is an album flowing with faith, soaked in believe and completely 100% confident God is actively in love with his creation. Kim declares, along with those worshiping with her, that she still believes.
Another long track, lasting almost 10 minutes, this is song that will undoubtedly be used as background music in healing rooms, as a powerful declaration in charismatic congregations and as a comfort and strong reminder to those praying for healing.
8. MIRACLE MAKER
The Delirious classic has had an orchestral make-over! The recent Jesus Culture Band collaboration with Martin Smith has obviously worn off on Kim with the addition of this powerful track.
Her strong, raw vocals cut through the strings. It's a really treat and a wonderful surprise to hear this song afresh.
9. HEALING OIL
The theme of healing comes into the limelight at the end with 'Healing Oil'.
"I can feel your healing oil running down my brow / I wouldn't trade another lifetime for how I feel right now."
Lasting 8 ½ minutes (making all the 9 tracks last almost 70 minutes), you never want the track to end. The strings help the track to never get repetitive, and Kim's ability to hit every note with perfection and passion make every second of the entire album a truly worshipful experience not to missed.
