Me Too! Favourite Bible StoriesMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
This is the latest presentation of these well loved stories and songs first published back in 2001 and in several formats since.
They certainly deserve being kept available for another generation of little ones. The stories are a very satisfying length which with only a few words on each page means plenty of illustrations to look at. These have just the right amount of detail for a young child to find interesting and with a little adult help and heeding the suggestions given, could spin the stories out for as long as you wish.
The audio CDs are excellent. The narration by Tina Heath is just the job and the songs interspersing the stories are a delight. Lovely rhythms and simple tunes that encourage singing along. I can imagine adults loving this book and the CDs as much as the children – I certainly do!
A pity it is so difficult to extract the CDs from their too tight cardboard sleeve. I discovered too late that I could push them up from the front - I had already torn the card slightly.

Listen, Read and Singalong to 10 Bible Favourite
This gathering of 10 of the favourite ‘Me Too!’ Bible stories retold for preschoolers is well written, well drawn and now well told in a book and 2CD set that brings together carers, preschoolers and the Bible in a shared experience for teaching, sing alongs and story time.
The first CD introduces itself with a swingy song about what’s in the Bible and what the stories mean to you and… me too! Which is the whole theme of the well loved Bible stories concept. It’s all about sharing the Bible stories and through them sharing in God’s plan for me, you and the world. The padded hardback book opens with the story of Noah, as does the CD.
The recorded narrative faithfully follows the simple, easy to read words printed in very large letters in the book, but adds background music and sound effects. Noah’s sons can be heard building the ark with a power saw and knocking in the nails.
Just like the book, the CD includes the questions, which narrator, Tina Heath, reads in her engaging voice inviting a response from even the shyest preschooler. Asking what noise the animals make, she imitates each one in an amusing, gentle voice over the sound of more authentic duck, pig, lion and lamb noises in the background.
The background music, by Dave Cooke and Judy Mackenzie, is soft, soothing and fits the story perfectly. It’s surprisingly enjoyable even for adults – which is more than can be said for chirpy children’s songs that follow each story. So a word of warning – if you’re using the CD as a bedtime treat, be sure to turn it off when the story ends but before the song, or you’ll never get them off to sleep.
But if you’re using the CD and book as a teaching aid, children’s party music or all age feature, then the songs are a lively and enlivening way to get the message across. The lyrics are clever, which is unusual for a kid’s song CD (What’s in the Bible excepted, of course) and the teaching is simple enough even for the youngest.
The book is a lovely reproduction of the tiny Me Too books, in a more durable covers. The pictures match the words in their direct simplicity and childlike innocence. They illustrations are a bit of a quirky mix of biblical, historic and contemporary imagery; all the story characters dress like a school nativity play while pharaoh’s soldiers look life they’ve ridden straight out of the Bayeux Tapestry, and Daniel has an alarm clock while King Darius sleeps beside an electric bedside lamp!
But that’s being picky. This collection of well told, well written and well drawn favourite Bible stories will introduce preschoolers to the shared experience of reading the Bible and set them on their way to opening, reading, exploring and living out the Bible message for themselves.
