Lo and Behold!Deborah Reynolds, via The Good Book Stall
This is a reissue of a book which was first published in 1991when Trevor Dennis was teaching Old Testament Studies at Salisbury Theological College. However, it has more than withstood the test of time and provides huge insights into some of the biblical narratives of Genesis, Exodus, Joshua, Elijah and Jonah. When Trevor Dennis wrote the book he believed that the Old Testament was generally a neglected and often misunderstood part of the Bible. Using his detailed knowledge of Old Testament history and Hebrew he has carefully written an informative yet lively book which encourages us to understand these significant passages more, challenges us to see beyond what is often too readily assumed by the text and to think afresh about God’s relationship with his people.
In describing aspects of Genesis with which we are perhaps familiar, Trevor Dennis writes that ‘It is familiar to us from our own experience. The ambivalent world of need, high hopes for the future, conflict, disputes, peace-making, and reckless selfishness is the one in which human beings have always lived, and the one in which we find ourselves. It is our world too, to which God remains firmly committed. There is the hope.’
